Preparation

The worker...

The worker...

As you can imagine there is quite a bit of preparation that is involved in a trip like this. As a bit of a guide for the next newbie overlander like we were (or still are at this point actually) we’ve tried to be fairly verbose in what we did and split it up into sections. Hopefully someone will find it useful. Don’t be daunted by how much planning is involved… the more you actually get done the more exciting it gets. And be prepared to write lists, lots of lists, and you’ll start crossing things off and making new lists… repeatedly :)

The areas we’ve broken it down into are:

Routes & Maps
All the info about the paper based maps, GPS, Books, and software we’ve used or are using.

Visas
What visas we needed to get before we set off and who did it, and which ones could be gotten at the border.

Vehicle Paperwork
What we needed for the Carnet and Australian importation, and various bits of information on driving through some of the countries.

Medical & Insurance
What medical insurance we took, shots we had, and training we did before setting out.

Vehicle Prep
What we did to the vehicle and driver training we undertook.

Gear & Toys
What stuff we are taking with us for safety, comfort and fun.
