Our Route
Our route back home will take us through 16 different countries. In order they are:
UK > France > Belgium > Germany > Poland > Lithuania > Latvia > Estonia > Russia > Kazakhstan > Russia > Mongolia > China > Laos > Thailand > Malaysia > Truck goes in a container > Australia (Darwin) > Perth.
We originally looked at the possibility of going top to bottom of Africa and then shipping from Durban to Perth, but we figured that particular route is a little more risky for a single car with people who haven’t really done this sort of thing before. We also looked at including places like Iran and India, but we hit a bit of road block in that route as at the current time on an Australian or British passport you couldn’t cross the Pakistan/India border. We would also run into trouble in Burma (Myanmar) where we were told with the unrest there, we could drive about half way through, at which point you hand over your keys to a member of the Burmese military who will drive your car the rest of the way and we fly to the border and wait for our car there. Must admit that didn’t sound ideal… So we chose our current route… which is pretty damn good I think.
